New Year, More Creativity: Resolve to Enjoy More Art in 2026

Despite the frigid temperatures and post-holiday humdrum, the Yonkers Arts scene is hotter than ever, with a number of fun, thought-provoking, and creative ways to kick off the new year. Whether it’s grabbing some craft supplies, enjoying a gallery, or rocking out to some energizing music, there’s plenty to do this month. Here’s a quick guide to some upcoming arts events to inject a little more creativity into your daily routine!  

Vision Board Event at Simple Motive

This Saturday, January 10th, put those resolutions to good use with a special vision board event hosted by Enjoy Erica Art Studio. From 12 PM – 2 PM, attendees can enjoy a guided session with Therapeutic Art Life Coach Erica Sota to set intentions and manifestations for the new year. A ticket includes access to the event, all art supplies, a guided workshop, and creative prompts for goal setting.

Kick it Old School at Yonkers Brewing

Just because we’ve leapt into a new year doesn’t mean we can’t look back fondly on the past! Yonkers Brewing has a nostalgia-packed weekend for music lovers. First, on Friday, January 16th, travel back to the time of flannel and boomboxes with a ’90s Tribute Night. Local bands and music artists Jake Alibi, Alex Cano, Hindsight, and the Traveling Medicine Man will pay homage to their favorite grunge, alt-rock, and pop anthems. The event starts at 8 PM and tickets are $15 in advance and can be purchased here.

Then, on Saturday, January 17th, the Brewery time travels to the early 2000s with an Emo vs. Nu Metal night, featuring sing-along sets from KillyJoys performing a My Chemical Romance tribute and Break Stuff, covering the music of Limp Bizkit. The event starts at 8 PM and tickets are $15 in advance and can be purchased here.

Meditation at the Hudson River Museum

On January 17th, the Hudson River Museum continues their four-part meditation series Stillness in Motion, guided by yoga, meditation, and sound healing educator Jenn Vagios. Visitors will experience a 60-minute yoga session while immersed in the Bill Viola: Moving Stillness exhibit. The theme of this session is “Stillness–Between Movement and Meaning” and will explore the interplay of motion and stillness through breath, sound, and sensory awareness.

This event is recommended for ages 14+, no experience necessary. It takes place on at 3PM at the Hudson River Museum, 511 Warburton Ave.
Yonkers, NY 10701. Attendance is free for HRM members, but capacity is limited, so advance registration is recommended.

Yonkers Arts Call for Submissions

Yonkers Arts has announced their winter 2026 exhibition WORDS, which will feature artist interpretation of how words shape our lives and connect us in traditional or non-traditional forms of media including drawings, paintings, photography, sculpture, video, performance, and installation. Artist submissions are open until Sunday, January 18th and notifications will be sent out on Friday, January 23rd. Yonkers Arts is also seeking proposals for workshops and programs relating to the concepts of the exhibitions WORDS.

Please note that all works must be dropped off/picked up in person at the gallery, located at 216 Lake Ave in Yonkers, NY. Artists interested in submitting their work may do so using the submission form.
