Hudson River Museum Selected as an Inaugural Winner of the Bridgemaker Prize from Art Bridges
On August 4th, the Art Bridges Foundation selected the Hudson River Museum (HRM), Peoria Riverfront Museum (PRM), and Spelman College Museum of Fine Art as the winners of the inaugural Bridgemaker Prize, founded by philanthropist Alice Walton.
This prestigious honor will be awarded annually to Art Bridges museum partners whose projects have reimagined museum practices, elevated diverse storytelling, and deepened community connections through innovative, interdisciplinary programs.
Each winner will receive a $50,000 award to support future projects in alignment with Art Bridges’ mission. Recipients will also have the opportunity to spotlight their work on Art Bridges’ digital platforms, which will help to expand each museum’s reach, with the goals of pushing boundaries, fostering dialogue, and championing the transformative power of art. The prize will be awarded in two categories reflecting the foundation’s core pillars: art sharing and community engagement.
Art Bridges and the HRM

Founded in 2017 by Alice Walton, the Art Bridges Foundation partners with over 250 museums and cultural organizations across the United States to provide financial, strategic, and logistical support for collection loans, exhibitions, and programming. Through the generosity of Art Bridges, the HRM has partnered with the foundation to bring forth a total of 37 projects over the past seven years. The partnership was further strengthened by the museum’s debut of its Free First Fridays program, which features performances, hands-on art making, and immersive experiences every month.
“Our work with Art Bridges has been nothing short of transformative,” states Masha Turchinsky, Hudson River Museum Director and CEO. “The collaboration is a testament to the profound ways a museum and a community can grow and thrive when they have the trust and support of an outstanding partner. All of us at the Hudson River Museum are deeply honored to be recognized as an inaugural recipient of the Bridgemaker Prize. This acknowledgement and support bolsters our creativity and inspires us to reach ever higher to break down barriers to access for all.”
