A Guide to Yonkers Pride

This Saturday, June 14th, Yonkers will host its 8th annual Yonkers Pride Festival, taking place on Main Street in Downtown Yonkers, from 1:00 PM - 7:00 PM, rain or shine. The theme of this year’s Yonkers Pride Festival is “Unapologetically Us: Love Unstoppable,” which, as stated by the Yonkers Pride Committee, “speaks to the spirit we see every day in Yonkers.

Yonkers Arts Weekend: Fasion in Motion at the Hudson River Museum

On Saturday, May 17th, the Hudson River Museum hosted several special events as part of the Yonkers Arts Weekend, including a "Bubble Extravaganza" with giant bubbles, flowing streamers, and kites in the courtyard and live music from the Westchester Center for Jazz Ensemble in the lower gallery.

YoHo Open Studios Spotlight: Susan MacMurdy

On the YoHo Artist Studios' fourth floor lies Susan MacMurdy's collage art workshop. Starting as a printmaker, MacMurdy has worked in paper crafts for many decades. Her mixed-media collages are inspired by nature, especially the beauty found in "urban nature," like public parks and community gardens in upper Manhattan and the Bronx. The juxtaposition of city life and the greenery of nature, robust wildlife, and aquatic creatures can be seen in many of her pieces, like "Bronx Supermoon" and "Gone Fishing."

YoHo Open Studios Spotlight: Seán Taggart

On the busy fifth floor of the YoHo Artist Studios is Seán Taggart's studio, filled with his self-described "artoonism" pieces comprising tapestries, paintings, and sketches that include bold political statements, humorous self-reflections, and pastel depictions of dystopian landscapes. Taggart's art draws you in with his use of color and cartoons, and then he gives you a moment to reflect on the state of the world, and, on occasion, laugh about it too.
