NAACP Yonkers Branch to Host Meeting on Surviving Police Confrontations

The NAACP Yonkers Branch will hold its General Membership Meeting and Black History Month Celebration on Monday, February 23, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. The event is open to the public.

Guest speaker Damon K. Jones will present “How to Survive Police Confrontation.” Jones is the New York State Representative of Blacks in Law Enforcement of America and a retired 33-year veteran of the Westchester County Department of Corrections. He has served on Gov. Paterson’s Police-on-Police Shooting Task Force and the Westchester County Police Reform and Reimagining Task Force, and has provided expert testimony to the United Nations on policing and racial discrimination.

The presentation will cover knowing your rights, staying safe during police encounters, practical guidance for individuals, families and communities, and accountability, awareness and self-preservation.

The meeting will be held in person at Sarah Lawrence College’s Center for the Urban River at Beczak, 35 Alexander Street, Yonkers, NY 10701. Virtual attendance is available via Zoom (Meeting ID: 881 1279 6070, Passcode: NAACP).
