Sitting Councilmember Pineda-Isaac to Run Without Democratic Party Endorsement

Statement from Councilwoman Corazón Pineda-Isaac:

“Tonight, I will not seek the endorsement of the Yonkers Democratic City Committee at the convention. Instead, I will run for reelection to the City Council’s 2nd District in the Democratic Primary and leverage my vast network of volunteers and supporters to qualify for the ballot on my own.

In my tenure as a City Councilmember, I have only run with the party’s endorsement once. My service on the Council is a testament to the fact that it is the people who decide their representatives, and no one else. I have continuously delivered for the people of the district, whether it’s by funding the new Dayspring Community Center in Nodine Hill, passing an affordable housing ordinance, or requiring body cameras on police officers. They know that I have the record, leadership and experience to lead our district through these challenging times, creating more affordable housing, making our communities safer and funding our public schools. I am accountable to them and only them.

I strongly respect the district leaders who work tirelessly to advance Democratic party values in our city and are often underappreciated for their efforts. Many of these leaders support my candidacy, and I am deeply thankful.

I look forward to prevailing in the primary and moving the party forward as one united front. With Donald Trump in the White House, there is no more important goal than coming together and fighting as one.”
